UT Health San Antonio

CARES Act Grant for Students

UT Health San Antonio has received an award of $772,901 from the CARES Act grant to assist students facing financial hardship as a result of the campus disruption from COVID-19.

Our plan is to use these funds to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to our students, up to a maximum amount of $2,000, in accordance with federal guidelines.

Eligibility

In order to receive funds through the CARES Act grant students must:

  1. Have a completed 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Be enrolled during the spring 2020 semester
  3. Demonstrate financial need
  4. Submit the Educational Reimbursement Form

Students who have not yet filed a FAFSA for the 2019-2020 award year may do so on the Federal Student Aid Resources website. For instructions about this process visit our institutional Financial Aid page. Please understand this step must be completed before you submit an application for CARES grant funding, and any applications received without a FAFSA on file will be declined immediately.

Process

Applications submitted will be reviewed by the CARES committee to validate eligibility requirements have been met before awarding the grant in the order the applications are received. This process will continue until all funds have been awarded. Students will be notified via campus email accounts of the committee’s decision for either approved or denied requests.

Delivery

Students awarded the grant will receive the funds, via direct deposit or paper check depending upon the student’s preferences as recorded in My Student Center, without consideration of account balances due for tuition and fee charges.

Other Considerations

Amounts received are not taxable to the student and will not be reported on the student's 1098T according to guidance published by the IRS.
