Yvonne De Paiva Buischi

Professor/Research

Dr. Yvonne De Paiva Buischi is a Research Professor in the Department of Periodontics Department of Periodontics School of Dentistry UT Health San Antonio.Dr. Buischi has obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from the University of Sao Paulo, a Periodontics Specialty Certificate from the University of Campinas, and Doctor of Science degree in Oral Biochemistry (University of Sao Paulo). She is a former Associate Professor at the Preventive Dental Health Center, Karlstad, Sweden, where she also did her post-doctoral training. Former Interim Director to The World Health Organization (WHO) Oral Health Program and Member of the WHO Expert Panel for Oral Health, Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Buischi has been extensively published in peer reviewed literature, authored four books and contributions to at least nine book chapters, and has been a frequent presenter at international meetings. She is also a former Associate Editor for Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, and currently member of various editorial boards of other prestigious scientific journals. . A former President for the Brazilian Association of Preventive Dentistry (ABOPREV) and former consultant for the Brazilian National Government, and to several multinational corporations.

       Research interests

Global health focused on oral health promotion for underserved populations. Ongoing projects in East Africa and Brazil. Research activities include among others: Developing frameworks for global health programs, assessing behavioral changes in oral health through educational evidence-based interventions, and the link between general and oral health.
