Department of Occupational Therapy

Our entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) is designed to educate future occupational therapists to be leaders in the profession and health care. The OTD curriculum provides students hands-on learning supported by theory and evidence-based practice so they are ready to excel in any practice setting they choose upon graduation.

OT

Occupational therapy is a vital, evidence-based health profession that addresses the needs of individuals, communities, and populations. Occupational therapists work with people across the lifespan to support their ability to participate in meaningful living activities—or occupations.  The  OTD degree program at UT Health San Antonio is an exciting curriculum that prepares graduates to be highly skilled and compassionate practitioners. Some strengths of the OT program include its affordable tuition; being part of an academic health center; and being located in vibrant, diverse San Antonio.

Accreditation

The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) accreditation process for the OTD program is a multi-step process.

We have been granted Pre-accreditation status by ACOTE which allows us to admit students to the OTD program.

The Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at UT Health San Antonio is no longer accepting applications. The final MOT class will graduate in 2019. The MOT program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education  (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association c/o Accreditation Department American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), 6116 Executive Blvd, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929 - (301) 652-6611. ACOTE's Web address is www.acoteonline.org

Graduates of the program will be able to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapists administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR®). Certification is necessary for licensure in most states. Please note:  A felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT examination and or attain a state license.

Program Outcomes
