Deputy EMS Medical Director

The Department of Emergency Health Sciences (EHS) in the School of Health Professions at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is seeking:

Deputy Medical Director for City of San Antonio Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services

The Department of EHS is the contracted provider of initial and continuing EMS education, QA and Performance Improvement, and online and offline medical control for the San Antonio Fire Department EMS division. SAFD EMS provides pre-hospital emergency service to a population of 1.4 million people, responding to approximately 160,000 calls for service annually.

The Department of EHS employs numerous faculty (RNs and Paramedics) who educate paramedics, present CE programs, evaluate SAFD personnel, serve as online medical control consultants, provide infection control services, and ALS/BLS education coordination. 

This Deputy Medical Director position will be a full-time appointment with academic rank through the Deptarment of EHS at UT Health San Antonio. Board certification in Emergency Medicine is required with strong clinical and teaching skills.  Preference given to EMS subspecialty certification, EMS board eligibility, or administrative experience in a large urban EMS system. Responsibilities include: medical oversight of SAFD system including education, online medical control, and QA/PI; teaching in CE programs; medical direction for the EHS Department at the University, participation in University EHS teaching, service and research; service on local, regional and national committees; active participation in field evaluations; eligible to practice at University Hospital Emergency Department (Level 1 trauma center) with cross academic appointment at UT Health San Antonio, Dept of Emergency Medicine. UT Health San Antonio faculty appointment will be on the clinical track with a rank commensurate with credentials and experience.

All faculty appointments are designated as security sensitive positions.
