The School of Health Professions will be represented on the board of directors of a new national organization for allied health professions students.
Physical Therapy student Mike Nash has been selected to serve on the board of directors for the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions - Student Assembly (ASHAHP-SA). Nash is president of the class of 2019 and chair of the School of Health Professions’ Student President's Council.
David Henzi, Ed.D., associate dean for academic and student affairs said he encouraged Nash to apply for the board position.
“He just seemed like a natural fit as president of our president’s council,” Dr. Henzi said. “He’s done a great job of leading a great variety of initiatives.”
The ASHAHP-SA will increase interprofessional opportunities for students, Nash explained. “It’s a brand new national organization for students involved in any school of health professions program,” Nash said. “I am working with the other members of the board of directors to set up the entire organization.”
Immediate priorities include finalizing bylaws and setting up procedures and resources for chapter liaisons.
“From there we work on getting different chapters set up across the country,” he added.
Sarah Purcell, a second-year occupational therapy student and 2018 class president, have been nominated to be the chapter liaison for the School of Health Professions. The chapter could be operational by this fall, Nash noted.
The ASAHP will hold its 50th-anniversary conference Oct.18-20 in San Antonio.
