RC Symposium

The Division of Respiratory Care will host two virtual events in March: the 26th Annual Respiratory Care Symposium and the first-ever Respiratory Therapy Student Virtual Conference. Find program details and registration information for each event below.

26th Annual Respiratory Care Symposium Webinar

•    March 4–5, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. CT
•    Six CEUs per day; attend one or both days
•    Multiple registration levels
•    Register at makelivesbetter.uthscsa.edu/rcsymposium.

Hosted on Zoom, this year’s symposium, “Looking Toward the Future,” marks the second year the symposium will be virtual in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Tabatha Dragonberry, DHSc, MBA, MEd, RRT-NPS, RRT-ACCS, AE-C, CPFT, C-NPT, assistant professor and director of online education for the Division of Respiratory Care.

Participants may register for one or both days of the symposium, which will feature six speakers per day from the U.S. and around the world. Some of the session topics include electric impedance tomography, legal and ethical issues in health care decision making, management of the patient with obstructive lung disease, apnea tests for brain death evaluation, and introduction to the carbogen method.

Respiratory Therapy Student Virtual Conference

•    March 13, noon to 5:30 p.m. CT
•    Registration closes at noon on March 10
•    Q&A format and breakout sessions
•    Register here.

Titled “Minors to Majors,” this virtual conference will allow students to ask professionals questions about a variety of respiratory therapy career roles, including those of clinical specialist, travel therapist, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapist, and transport therapist.

“Most respiratory therapists in the profession work bedside,” Dr. Dragonberry said. “But there are other avenues for respiratory therapists besides bedside care.”

In addition, students who have worked with COVID-19 patients will share their experiences during the conference’s first hour.
