School of Health Professions Alpha Eta Society chapter inducts new students and faculty members

Twenty-three students from among all six programs of the School of Health Professions were inducted into the Alpha Eta Society during a ceremony held May 1.

The society is selective, said Bruce Butterfras, M.S.Ed., assistant professor of emergency health sciences and president of the School of Health Professions chapter. To be eligible for membership, students in bachelor's degree programs must earn at least a 3.5 GPA and show a capacity for leadership and achievements. Graduate students must have a 3.8 GPA, and demonstrate the same leadership and achievement qualities. Just 10 percent of students in a given program may be inducted per year, he added.

"That really says something about what they were able to accomplish in school," Butterfras said.

John C. Phelps II, M.A., NRP, ACHE, assistant professor of emergency health science, and Ana Allegretti, Ph.D., OTR, assistant professor of the occupational therapy, also were inducted into the society. Faculty must have tenure or at least three years as full-time faculty or six years part time within their discipline to qualify for membership.
