The School of Health Professions this spring honored Autumn Clegg, Ed.D., OTR, CBIS, assistant/clinical professor and academic fieldwork coordinator with its 2018 Spectrum Award.
The award recognizes excellence in a wide range of areas, including leadership, teaching, services, and scholarship.
Bridgette Piernik -Yoder, Ph.D., OTR, associate professor and department chair, nominated Dr. Clegg for the recognition and praised her "amazing job" in her teaching role as fieldwork coordinator.
"We were very excited for Autumn to receive the award in recognition of all she has done for the students, department, school, and university," Piernik-Yoder said. "It was well-deserved."
Clegg, who joined the department in 2009, said she particularly enjoys the opportunity fieldwork education provides to make connections with occupational therapists and partners in the community and to see students grow. Her ongoing research involvement includes serving as a clinical evaluator with the Department of Neurology on a study involving children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and working with Piernik-Yoder on a Meals on Wheels project. Clegg also served as principal investigator on a community education grant that led to a community education program supporting and ALS clinic in the Rio Grande Valley.
Clegg said she was honored and surprised to receive the award but also credited the OT department for its supportive and collaborative environment.
"As a department, we work well together," she said.
