Occupational Therapy faculty position

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Department of Occupational Therapy invites applications for a new full-time 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment at the assistant, associate or full professor level in the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) Program. The position is open until filled. The faculty member will be responsible for curricular components of occupational therapy pediatric interventions. This includes teaching occupational therapy theory, assessments, and interventions for children with disabilities and within the environments and contexts of their daily lives. Our MOT program places high importance in clinical expertise for teaching occupational therapy intervention so that our students develop those skills needed to be competent entry-level occupational therapists upon graduation. Scholarship and research are responsibilities of the position as well as other responsibilities in teaching, student advisement, university activities, and professional leadership.

Department of Occupational Therapy

Our department has six full-time faculty members. Collaborative and supportive administration and faculty help to make the environment conducive to growth and excellence in teaching, research and service. Faculty members support each other in responsibilities and in development of academic skills. The curriculum is designed to graduate students with strong theoretical foundations and accompanying strong clinical skills for successful evidence-based occupational therapy practices. The curriculum is designed to provide numerous clinical and community experiences for the students in this 30 month program. All faculty members are actively engaged in education, research, and professional activities. Faculty members are excited to be in the process of transitioning from the MOT program to an entry-level OTD program within one to two years.

School of Health Professions

The OT Department is within the UT Health San Antonio School of Health Professions, which fosters and supports the development of excellence in teaching, research, and service for faculty. There are five other programs within the School of Health Professions: Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Emergency Health Sciences, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Respiratory Care Sciences. Plans are underway for a new Master of Speech and Language Pathology.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is a vibrant and comprehensive academic health university with a total student enrollment over 3,000. The university's mission is to make lives better through excellence in education, research, health care and community engagement. There are five academic schools: School of Dentistry, School of Health Professions, School of Nursing, Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The university is located in San Antonio which has rich cultural activities and a low cost of living. The South Central Texas region has beautiful state parks, close coastal areas and a mild climate.

Qualifications for this faculty position

A doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy or related field is required. Individuals near completion of a doctoral degree will be considered. A minimum of three years of clinical experience in pediatric occupational therapy is required. Experience and interest in research are desirable. Teaching and professional presentation experiences are needed. Eligibility for Texas Occupational Therapy licensure is required.
