Department of Occupational Therapy

Ricky Joseph, Ph.D., OTR

Dr. Ricky Joseph graduated from Louisiana State University with a BS in Occupational Therapy, Pepperdine University with an MA in Human Resources Management, and Capella University with a PhD in Education with a specialization in Higher Education Administration. He holds two consecutive diplomas from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and is an inductee in the U.S. Army Medical Department Order of Military Merit. He completed a 27 year US Army career as a military officer and clinician attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has clinical experience as an occupational therapist in mental health, orthopedic rehabilitation, neuro-rehabilitation, ergonomics, and pediatrics. Scholarly interests include mental health, curriculum design and implementation, ergonomic assessment and research, and promoting student learning through innovative teaching strategies. Dr. Joseph was awarded the Texas Occupational Therapy Association‘s Academic Faculty of the Year Award for 2015, the 2017 School of Health Professions Spectrum Award for exceptional contributions in teaching, research ,and service, and the Presidential Award for sustained excellence in teaching in 2019. He received a UT Health San Antonio Presidential Appointment as the Institution‘s Representative for Interprofessional Education on the UT System IPE Consortium and served as a member of the UT Health San Antonio QEP advisory committee for the 2018 SACSCOC Reaffirmation.
