Quality Assurance Manager

The position of Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) is a faculty position at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Health Professions Department of Emergency Health Sciences. The QAM is responsible for providing these services primarily to the San Antonio Fire Department and other agencies as designated by the Department of EHS.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- The Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) will have, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in nursing or healthcare related field
- Must have a current active Texas RN license
- Certified Professional in HealthCare Quality (CPHQ) preferred
- The QAM must obtain certification at the EMT level within 12 months of hire
Experience:
- A minimum of 1-year clinical experience in emergency or critical care nursing
- Minimum of two years performance improvement experience preferred
- Knowledge or experience in in prehospital policies, protocols and procedures preferred
- Knowledge of current theory, concepts, principles, techniques and practices of medical quality assurance
- Knowledge of principles and practices of modern research methods and processes
- Qualifications to meet the School of Health Professions criteria for appointment to Instructor, Assistant or Associate Professor, non-tenure track
Duties:
- Through oversight of the EMS Medical Director, coordinates quality assurance/management activities for EMS clinical quality improvement and process improvement
- Quality improvement study design and implementation including selection of valid and reliable indicators, coordination of monitoring and evaluation activities, and medical record reviews
- Analyze data and prepare concise, accurate and meaningful quality management reports in accordance with quality management principles. Provides data collection and report development support for quality improvement studies and performance improvement projects.
- Assist in the coordination of activities and studies performed within the EMS Quality Assurance program and prepare reports as required
- Develop CME curricula; EMS QA benchmarks; and areas of system excellence
- Develop adverse event and near-miss reporting systems
- Establish and maintain tactful, effective working relationships with all university faculty and staff, SAFD personnel, as well as patients, families, providers, and other outside agencies
- Audit charts for clinical oversight and compliance with EMS Standard Medical Operating Procedures
- Maintain, analyze, and report on EMS stroke, STEMI, and cardiac arrest data and other disease specific treatment metrics
- Participate in and submit reports to the South Texas Regional Advisory Committee on Trauma as assigned
- Present to SAFD EMS personnel QA information and reports during classroom continuing education classes
