Jackie King
Jackie King Class of 2016
Jackie King, a native of Kumasi, Ghana, is pursuing a career in respiratory care for a purpose. She chose the UT Health Science Center San Antonio through an online search that provided her with details on its reputation as a top school in the nation.
What led her to a career in respiratory care is very personal. During her youth, Jackie saw her grandmother, who is diabetic, admitted to the ICU several times and fall into a coma. Jackie credits respiratory therapists for her grandmother's recovery because they assisted her breathing with a ventilator.
Today, Jackie is enthusiastic and thankful that she is able to help individuals with breathing disorders and loves that she is able to give back thanks to the knowledge and expertise she is gaining at the Health Science Center. She volunteers at the Urban Surge free asthma clinic and educates patients on asthma treatments that will help them breathe again.
