Lainey Wages
Lainey Wages Class of 2019
Lainey is a second-year speech and language pathology student from Denton, Texas. She completed her undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders with a minor in child development at Texas Woman’s University.
She found her interest in speech and language pathology when she observed the speech clinic at her university. Witnessing a child verbalize their first word, or put their first sentence together, was magical, she said. Communication is how we interact with our world, and helping others find their voice is Lainey’s passion. She enjoys her current placement in a pediatric outpatient clinic and is gaining great hands-on experience.
Lainey chose UT Health San Antonio because she wanted to receive a medical-based education. The opportunity to be a part of the first SLP graduate class has been an exciting adventure that she has been so grateful to experience. The SLP program at UT Health San Antonio has exposed her to unique courses such as head and neck cancer, pediatric swallowing and voice disorders.
Once she graduates, Lainey plans on returning to Dallas and working in a pediatric outpatient facility during her fellowship year. One day, Lainey would like to have a certified therapy dog accompany her in her treatment sessions. Speech-language pathology has so much to offer, and she is looking forward to all of the different experiences that are available to her.
Lainey enjoys reading comic books, playing board games, cooking, going on walks with her dogs and watching documentaries with her fiancé. She also enjoys traveling and exploring new places and trying new foods.
