Strategic Messaging - Mission & Vision

Graduate Medical Education

Our Mission

Our mission is to improve health by advancing the quality of resident physicians' education.

Our Vision

Foster growth of exemplary physicians, GME programs, and institutional practices as a means to:

  • Achieve the quadruple aim of improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction)
  • Improving the health of our population
  • Provider vitality
  • Increasing the value of health care

This image is the GME Parthenon and it graphically represents the Mission and Vision of the Office for Graduate Medical Education. The foundation elements of GME are Scholarship, Program Accreditation & Compliance, and Institutional Accreditation. Our four major pillars of effort are Work-Life Wellness, Health Systems Science, Professional Development, and Educational Innovation. All of these elements support a “roof” consisting of Exemplary Physicians, GME Programs, and Institutional Practices that help us achieve (at the peak of the roof) the Quadruple Aim of healthcare: improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction), improving population health, sustaining provider vitality, and increasing the value of healthcare.
