Alex Taylor, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor/Research

Associate Director, Structural Biology Core Facilities - X-ray Crystallography Core Laboratory

Co-director, Drug Discovery and Structural Biology Shared Resource, Mays Cancer Center

As Associate Director of the X-ray Crystallography Core Laboratory in UT Health Structural Biology Core Facilites, my role in team science focuses on the detailed 3-D analyses of biological macromolecules that impact human health. My research involves macromolecular X-ray crystallography and biochemistry that began with my training as a Ph.D. student in Prof. Marvin Hackert’s lab at the University of Texas at Austin and collaboration with Prof. Chris Whitman, followed by postdoctoral training in Prof. Johann Deisenhofer’s lab at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. I study structure and function of protein targets in multiple areas such as infectious disease, cancer biology, innate immunity, virology, metabolism and structure-guided drug design.
