Areas of expertise include: undergraduate teaching (classroom and clinical), curriculum development and evaluation, innovative clinical teaching strategies, and faculty mentoring/development. Numerous leadership positions include serving as Chair of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and Chair of the Faculty Assembly. Under my leadership, faculty developed/implemented curriculum for two new tracks of the undergraduate program. In Fall 2011, I developed and implemented the first Dedicated Education Unit in San Antonio, based on a collaborative academia-service partnership. Serving as the DEU project leader, I oversee the expansion of this successful model of clinical teaching. This model is used in medical surgical, mother-baby, and pediatric clinical courses based on partnerships with two healthcare systems.
