Family Clinical NURS.3373 Pediatric Expert - I certify and take about 24 accelerated students at a time, (rotating from a total of 90+ students), into the community (local private schools) to perform Vision & Hearing and Scoliosis Screenings as part of their pediatric clinical rotation during the Fall weeks. I am the liaison for the State of Texas and UTHSCSA-SoN to provide certification for faculty and all undergraduate students. I supervise the students out in the field while helping the local school community fulfill the State of Texas requirement to have all school-age children screened. I have been doing this since 2009. |
Health Assessment & Promotion: Clinical NURS.3273 - I have been Coordinator since 2014 and I also teach in this accelerated nursing course each summer and I am considered one of the pediatric experts for content over the lifespan. I have changed the teaching process in this course this summer (2016) and I believe it has improved the teaching/learning process for faculty and students. |
Immersion (Clinical) NURS.4423 Pediatric Expert - I organize and present mini-lectures on a variety of topics for accelerated students participating the clinical immersion course. There are no pediatric preceptors for this course so I am on site at the hospital for the entire 12-hr shifts (3 days a week for 5 weeks). I supervise the only Pediatric group in the Clinical Immersion course. Only 10 students can be selected for this specialty. I really enjoy enhancing these students with more advanced knowledge in pediatrics to help them succeed in their goals to work in pediatrics. I started the mini-lectures in 2010 and the students really appreciate the extra knowledge to apply immediately to their clinical day. |
NURS4533-DMIII Pediatric Clinical Coordinator - Clinical NURS.4533(DMIII) Pediatric Expert- I am the pediatric pediatric coordinator to help Dr. Ford organize the pediatric component of the 90+ accelerated student?s third semester Disease Management course for their pediatric clinical rotations in their Spring semester. I organize faculty, clinical groups, and hospital sites for a 4-week clinical pediatric rotation at local children?s hospitals. I have taken on extra clinical groups if there is not enough pediatric faculty to fulfill this obligation to the accelerated program. |
Pediatric Expert for Health Assessment NURS.3273 - I teach Health Assessment NURS.3273 for the accelerated undergraduate program each summer and I am the pediatric content expert for the clinical course. |
Pediatric Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant Nurse - I bring my critical thinking and critical care knowledge and skills experience to pediatrics in the Department of Family and Community Health Systems. Nursing care for the children with complex disease processes and medical needs. Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certified through APHON to administer Cytoxic agents to infants and children with life-threatening cancers and other disease processes. Certified to perform bone marrow transplant procedures for infants and children in the clinical setting. |
Skills Lab Expert/Coordinator - I coordinate and teach clinical skills in both faculty and students in the Traditional and Accelerated Undergraduate Programs to prepare students for their hospital experiences. I organize and schedule for faculty to accommodate more than 100 students per semester to facilitate the student`s knowledge and skills prior to entering the hospital setting. The skills labs include pediatric content such as physical assessment, oxygen delivery, I & O activities, safety, pain assessment, medication dosage calculation and administration with age-appropriate equipment. |
Vision & Hearing Liaison for UTHSCSA - I am the Vision & Hearing Coordinator and liaison for the State of Texas to provide Vision & Hearing Screening Certification for faculty and students for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, School of Nursing. I coordinate, present, and certify both faculty and students in the Traditional and Accelerated Undergraduate Nursing Program. |
