I am an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing in the School of Nursing. I completed post-doctoral training in vulnerable populations` research at the Center for Vulnerable Populations research at the UCLA School of Nursing under the direction of Dr. Flaskerud, Anderson and Koniak-Griffin. I completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico under the direction of Drs. Parshall, Helitzer, and Gomez. I currently serve as Faculty Co-Advisor for the UT Health San Antonio Pride, the LGBTQI student group, working with a group of medical, nursing and physician assistant students. I helped to design a needs survey for the local LGBTQI communities with the goal of creating student run gender and sexual minority clinic. I mentored medical and nursing students in the development of what has become the Pride Community Clinic. I continue to mentor health professional students in their development as culturally competent clinicians. I have carried out Safe Space training sessions in both the School of Nursing and the School of Medicine. I serve on the UT Health San Antonio Campus Climate Task Force. I serve on the Methodist Metropolitan Hospital Patient Family Advisory Council.
I am admitted to the family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certificate program at the University of Texas, Austin School of Nursing for the Fall 2018 Semester.
