Dr. Byrd serves as the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Services in the School of Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He has coordinated international field trips to Greece and the United Kingdom. Dr. Byrd has served as a holistic admissions consultant for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and their planning committee for the Graduate Nursing Admissions Professional’s Network. He has also volunteered with the Admissions Policies and Practices Committee of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) and served on the Advisory Board for the Symposium on the Recruitment and Retention of Students of Color. He serves on the Board of Directors for I Care, San Antonio, a non-profit that provides free eye care for low-income and homeless in Bexar and surrounding counties. Dr. Byrd has published in several top-tier peer-reviewed research journals on the subjects of underrepresented student success in higher education and innovative recruitment practices to attract students of color into high-need career fields. He has presented at over 30 national and regional conferences. He has been elected to Gamma Sigma Delta, Tau Kappa, the Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, and Kappa Delta Pi.
