Last month in Orlando, Florida, Rochisha Singh Marwaha, DDS, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry and assistant director for the Dental Public Health (DPH) Residency Program, received the honor of being inducted as a fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD).

The ICD is one of the oldest and most prestigious honorary dental societies in the world. The college was formed to advance the science and art of dentistry for the health and welfare of the public, to bring together the world's outstanding members of the dental profession for the exchange of dental knowledge, and to encourage the growth of the profession worldwide.

Fewer than 1% of the world’s dentists and less than 3% of dentists in the United States have been accepted for fellowship in the ICD. This honor recognizes outstanding professional achievement, integrity, meritorious service, leadership and continued progress in the profession of dentistry for the benefit of mankind.

Marwaha graduated from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Punjab, India, with a bachelor's degree in dental surgery, followed by a hospital-based, one-year internship where she completed clinical rotations in all dental departments and select medical departments, including general medicine, surgery and emergency medicine. She practiced as an associate dentist before moving to the United States in 2015 to pursue a master's degree in public health with a specialization in epidemiology from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans. Her passion for improving oral health in underserved and vulnerable populations motivated her to complete a postdoctoral advanced dental education residency program in dental public health at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York City. Following residency, she completed a clinical fellowship in dental public health at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry in 2019.

“Achievements like these are an affirmation of one's commitment to their craft, striving for excellence and leading with the intention of service towards humanity. I am grateful to be creating smiles both literally and figuratively,” said Marwaha.
