Associate Professor Fang-Ling Lu, PhD, CCC-SLP, FASAHP, was inducted as a fellow of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions at its annual conference in October.

Lu is chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and directs the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Sciences and Disorders certificate programs. She has been a member of the ASAHP Research, Discovery and Innovation Committee since 2021, and her research and clinical expertise address the impact of iatrogenic injuries on swallowing and motor speech function, as well as innovative methods in assessment and rehabilitation strategies.

ASAHP fellows are selected for their contributions to allied health as administrators, educators, clinicians or researchers. Lu was one of four inductees this year.

“Dr. Lu has provided outstanding leadership in the successful launch of the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and graduate certificate programs in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders,” said School of Health Professions Dean David Shelledy, PhD, RRT, RPFT, FAARC, FASAHP. “She is very deserving of this honor to join other leaders in health professions education.”

Numerous faculty from various departments of the School of Health Professions presented at the conference on topics including interprofessional education and collaboration, student leadership, health professions student career information sources, future staffing challenges, curriculum and exam preparation methods and more.

UT Health San Antonio was a gold sponsor of the conference, which was held Oct. 17–19 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
