Radiation Therapy With or Without Cetuximab in Treating Patients Who Have Undergone Surgery for Locally Advanced Head and Neck Cancer
This study involves the use of a drug called cetuximab. Cetuximab is not a chemotherapy drug. It is a drug that may delay or prevent tumor growth by blocking certain cellular chemical pathways that lead to tumor development. It was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006 for the treatment of head and neck cancer that could not be treated with surgery and for patients who had already received treatment but the cancer had come back. In this study cetuximab is investigational. ―Investigational‖ means that cetuximab has not yet been approved by the FDA for treating head and neck cancer after the cancer has been surgically removed.
