Dr. Ian Makey was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was raised in Meridian, Mississippi. He is board certified in general surgery and board eligible for cardiothoracic surgery. He has research interests in lung volume reduction surgery and operative risk prediction. Dr. Makey has worked with engineers on several medical devices for which two provisional patents have been awarded. He attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he played four years of division three soccer and tennis. After college, he taught spoken English to Chinese college students in Wuhan, China. He attended Tulane Medical School when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans during his senior year. Dr. Makey completed his general surgery training and cardiothoracic training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
