Dr. Alexander Papanastassiou is an associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at UT Health San Antonio. He specializes in surgery for epilepsy and movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia.
His practice and research interests include awake and asleep DBS surgery, including robotic surgery, as well as noninvasive gamma knife surgery (radiosurgery) for tremor. Dr. Papanastassiou completed his BAS at Stanford University, followed by medical school at the University of California at San Francisco. He completed neurosurgery residency at Harvard University at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, and fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital.
