Much-needed primary and specialty health care, and surgical services, for a growing Northwest Side drew an important step closer with a beam-signing ceremony for the UT Health at Kyle Seale Parkway outpatient and surgery center, signaling that crews have completed the steel construction phase of the project.
On Wednesday, leaders of UT Health Physicians, the clinical practice of UT Health San Antonio, contractors and community supporters celebrated at the site, located near the southeast corner of Loop 1604 and Kyle Seale Parkway in San Antonio, signing the last structural beam that will be placed atop the building’s frame.
The five-story, 108,000-square-foot community medical facility, with a current projected total cost of $66 million, is expected to open in early 2024. The project represents an important clinical expansion for UT Health San Antonio and promotes the university’s overall strategic plan to meet the needs of continued community growth.
“The North and the Northwest quadrant of Bexar County is growing more rapidly than any other segment,” said Robert Leverence, MD, vice dean for clinical affairs for UT Health San Antonio and executive director of UT Health Physicians. “To meet that specific demand, we are putting a full-service medical building in the middle of that growth. It will be about as full-service as you can get, outside of a hospital setting.”
UT Health at Kyle Seale Parkway will include primary care, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and physical therapy, as well as pathology and radiology – with the latest diagnostic laboratory testing and convenient imaging services including MRI, CT scan and ultrasound.
The center will include an ambulatory surgery center with four operating rooms. And it will have approximately 30,000 square feet of shelled space for future expansion.
UT Health San Antonio will own and operate the center. The construction contractor is Bartlett Cocke General Contractors, with architectural services being provided by Alamo Architects.
The project will have an estimated total economic impact of $108.5 million through the end of the construction period, and then $42.4 million annually once operations begin, according to an analysis by Steven R. Nivin Economic Research & Consulting.
During construction, the project is supporting 525 direct jobs with income of $32.6 million, with approximately 280 indirect and induced positions bringing the total to more than $47 million. Once completed, the facility will support 140 direct jobs and annual income of $16 million, with another 134 indirect and induced positions bringing the total to more than $22 million annually.
Total tax revenues to governments during construction is expected to top $11.3 million, and approximately $5.2 million annually after completion.
