Continuous glucose monitors are set to change the game for athletes with diabetes.
“The game-changer has been that it’s wearable,” said Ken O. Kenneth-Nwosa, MD, clinical assistant professor of sports medicine in the Department of Orthopaedics at UT Health San Antonio, and head team physician for the UTSA athletics program.
“So what that does is ... you can have information transmitted to your cellphone where you’re able to now see, actually share your levels with loved ones, your athletic trainer, and possibly coach to be able to monitor that level and figure out if you need to make any changes to your lifestyle or medications.”
