The Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team is a 24/7 fully dedicated pediatric specialty team serving referring hospitals and clinics throughout San Antonio and South Central Texas. The team serves more than 35 surrounding South Central counties and completes more than 500 patient transports a year.

The team can be requested through the University Hospital Call Center line that streamlines the process of consulting with one of our pediatric specialists and arranging transfer to our facility if necessary.

The team is comprised of a registered nurse and a registered respiratory therapist, both with extensive pediatric critical care experience. The team follows established medical protocols and is overseen by Dr. Sabrina Carillo, board-certified physician in pediatric critical care medicine.

The Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team is capable of transporting pediatric patients ranging from small infants to adolescents suffering from a wide variety of illnesses and injuries. The team has the ability to transport these patients by ground ambulance, helicopter, or fixed wing aircraft. Depending on the child's condition and location, our team utilizes all of these carriers to facilitate rapid response to referring facilities in San Antonio and surrounding areas.

University Hospital is staffed by experienced communication specialists who will connect the caller to the appropriate on-call specialist for consultation. If the caller is requesting a transfer, the Call Center connects the referring and receiving physicians and assists with arranging the transport.

Not only will the Call Center reduce the number of calls that the referring facility must make, but will also expedite the activation of our transport team.
