Treatment

Some recommendations regarding the optimal therapy to relieve or reduce HCM symptoms include:

  • Medicine to correct irregular heart rhythm and/or blood thinners to reduce the risk of clots
  • Traditional or less-invasive heart surgery to repair damaged areas of the heart
  • Pacemaker or defibrillator implantation to regulate heartbeat
  • Alcohol septal ablation- a heart catheterization procedure in which an alcohol solution is injected directly into a small branch of the coronary (heart) arteries. This causes the area of overgrown heart muscle to reduce in size.
