The negative side effects that can result from taking multiple medications can be devastating. Physicians at UT Health San Antonio specialize in tracking patients’ different medications, ensuring the correct dosages and identifying any possible negative interactions.

The negative side effects that can result from taking multiple medications are a growing concern, especially for older adults who commonly take four or more medicines to treat different conditions. While older adults are most at risk of negative reactions from taking multiple medications, our specialists provide medication management service for all of our patients.

At each appointment, our physicians review and log all the medications a patient is taking. This includes prescriptions, over-the-counter medication, vitamins and homeopathic (natural) medicine.

With this information, our physicians work with a UT Health Doctor of Pharmacy to report a number of findings, including possible negative interactions, errors or outdated dosage information and the potential need for discontinuing medications.
