Pelvic Floor Health (Physical Therapy)

We offer advanced treatments for pelvic floor and women’s health related conditions.

Pelvic floor or women's health physical therapists are specially trained physical therapists who are experts in musculoskeletal areas associated with the pelvis. They assess the musculoskeletal system and body as a whole in order to create a specialized treatment plan.

The pelvic floor is made up of muscles and other tissues that form a sling from the pubic bone to the tailbone. They help support the abdominal and pelvic organs and help to control the bladder, bowel movements, and sexual activity.

Pelvic floor dysfunction involves a wide range of conditions that stem from muscles in the pelvic region that have become weak or tight or from impairments of the sacroiliac joint, low back, coccyx or hip joints. Pelvic floor tissues around the pelvic organs can also become irritated and cause pelvic pain. These conditions may be caused by infections, pregnancy or childbirth, poor posture from chronic lower back pain or as a result of surgery.

Treatment for pelvic floor pain will be tailored to your specific condition. It may include therapeutic exercises, external or internal manual therapy, modalities such as electrical stimulation and heat. We also offer education on self-management and at-home programs. For more information about our various treatment options, please contact 210-450-9680 to make an appointment.
