Fiesta medal design winner announced

Lynda Schrack

A design submitted by Lynda Schrack, who works in the Clinical Trials Office, will be used to create the 2019 UT Health San Antonio Fiesta medal.

The design includes the traditional papel picado, or decorative paper cutouts, as well as symbols for the five UT Health San Antonio schools. Schrack said the concept “came to me very quickly and after that it was just about transferring it out of my head and onto paper.”

She described herself as “artsy craftsy” and a musician, but not an artist.

“I am so thrilled that my design will be representing UT Health San Antonio next year,” Schrack said. “I buy a Fiesta medal every year but next year I may need to buy a dozen.”

As the winner, Schrack will be invited to ride on the UT Health San Antonio barge during the 2019 Texas Cavaliers River Parade.
