Rear Admiral Trent-Adams to address ACORN grant nursing students


Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams, Ph.D., RN

Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams, Ph.D., RN, will be the speaker at an April 22 ceremony recognizing nursing students who will be involved in ACORN grants projects. ACORN stands for Advancing Community Oriented Registered Nursing.

The ACORN grants, funded by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, recruit and educate traditional program baccalaureate nursing students to engage in community-based primary care in medically underserved areas.

Dr. Trent-Adams is a rear admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and currently serves as the principal deputy assistant secretary for health. She previously served as the deputy surgeon general of the United States from 2015 to January 2019.

Norma Martinez Rogers, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, professor of nursing, will introduce the nursing students involved in projects funded by the ACORN grants.
