UT Health San Antonio to hold Precision Medicine in Prostate Cancer Symposium March 2

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 21, 2018) ― The Department of Urology at UT Health San Antonio is hosting a Precision Medicine in Prostate Cancer Symposium on Saturday, March 2. The free event is open to the public. It will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in the UT Health San Antonio Holly Auditorium. The campus is located at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive.

Prostate cancer survivors, patients, friends, family members and caregivers are welcome to attend. Prostate cancer experts will share information on early detection, environmental risk factors, genetic risk factors and preventive treatments.

Speakers

The program includes these topics and presenters:

  • “Linking Gut Bacteria to Prostate Cancer Risk,” Michael A. Liss, M.D., M.A.S., FACS, associate professor of urology at UT Health San Antonio,
  • “Detecting Prostate Cancer in Men with Low PSA,” Robin J. Leach, Ph.D., professor and chief of the Division of Research in the Department of Urology at UT Health San Antonio,
  • “Cancer in Families: Hereditary Genetics of Cancer,” Chethan Ramamurthy, M.D., assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UT Health San Antonio, and
  • “Prevention of prostate cancer with Finasteride: The Final Story,” Ian M. Thompson Jr., M.D., president of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Medical Center Hospital.
