Walking for wellness

When was the last time you went outside for a walk in the middle of your workday? On Wednesday, more than 100 people from around the university gathered outside their buildings to participate in a 10-minute walk for wellness, hosted by the Campus Health and Wellness Committee.

“The weather is beautiful and we wanted people to take a moment to reconnect and get outside,” said committee chair Beth Wueste (Payne), M.A.Ed., director of academic programs for the Department of Pediatrics. “We are committed to offering wellness activities as seen in the lunch and learns on campus, but we are also driven to connect our community in healthy activities such as this walk—wellness for the mind and body.

“This walk brought together faculty, staff, students, trainees and whole office teams for 10 minutes to get out and connect doing something good for them. As an academic health center, it is important that we offer the same preventative health care mechanisms to our campus as we provide to our patients.”

The next Campus Health and Wellness event will be a lunch and learn led by Alan L. Peterson, Ph.D., ABPP, at noon, June 19, in the ALTC, Room 302. (see attached flyer).

A 10-minute wellness walk, hosted by the Campus Health and Wellness Committee, began with stretches led by members of Gold’s Gym.

Members of the Institute for Health Promotion Research and ReACH participated in a 10-minute wellness walk on May 15.
