UT Health Science Center Accreditation

Institution's Accreditation

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, to award certificates and baccalaureate, master's, doctoral and professional degrees. The institution was last reviewed and reaffirmed in 2018. The institution's accreditation extends through 2028, and includes all programs offered on the institution's main campus as well as those offered at all extended program sites.

Note: The Commission should only be contacted 1) to learn about the institution's accreditation status, 2) to file a third-party comment at the time of the institution's accreditation review, or 3) to file a complaint against the institution for alleged non-compliance with a standard or requirement. All normal inquiries about admission requirements, financial aid, educational programs, etc. should be addressed directly to the Health Science Center and not the Commission's office.

Dental School

The Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) program, the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Dental Hygiene, and the advanced dental education programs in endodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, general dentistry, orthodontics and dental facial orthopaedics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and dental diagnostic science are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The Commission on Dental Accreditation can be contacted at 211 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60611.

School of Health Professions

Clinical Laboratory Sciences

The Clinical Laboratory Sciences program and the Cytogenetics program are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), 5600 N. River Rd., Suite 720, Rosemont, IL 60018-5119.

Emergency Health Sciences

The EMT Basic and Paramedic certificate programs are accredited by the Committee on Accredita­tion of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP), 1248 Harwood Road, Bedford, TX 76021-4244 and by the Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Management, 1100 W. 49th Street, Austin, TX 78756-3199.

Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy programs are accredited through the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association. The council may be contacted at 6116 Executive Boulevard, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929, phone 301-652-2682.

Physician Assistant Studies

The Physician Assistant Studies' entry level professional program is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The commission may be contacted at 12000 Findley Road, Suite 240, Johns Creek, GA 30097.

Physical Therapy

The Department of Physical Therapy offers a three-year, full-time Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, which is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The commission is an independent part of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). The commission may be contacted at 1111 N. Fairfax St., Alexandria, VA 22314-1488.

Respiratory Care

The Respiratory Care baccalaureate education program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), 1248 Harwood Road, Bedford, TX 76021-4244. The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care and Master of Science in Respiratory Care programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), 1248 Harwood Rd., Bedford, TX 76021-4244, phone 817-283-2835, fax 817-354-8519.

School of Medicine

The Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for accreditation of programs of medical education leading to the M.D. degree in the United States. Accreditation surveys occur approximately every eight years with the most recent being in May 2013. The LCME can be contacted at 330 North Wabash Avenue, Suite 39300, Chicago, IL 60611-5885.

The Deaf Education and Hearing Science (M.D.E.H.S.) program is accredited by the Council on the Education of the Deaf, 800 Florida Avenue N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002-3695. The council is an organization sponsored by the five national premiere organizations in deafness and maintains high standards for persons working with dead and/or hard-of-hearing students in all educational settings.

School of Nursing

The baccalaureate program is accredited by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas, 333 Guadalupe St., #3-460, Austin, Texas 78701; 512-305-7400. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) and the Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) programs  and Doctorate in Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) have received full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education; One Dupont Circle NW, Suite 530, Washington, D.C.
