First generation Cuban-American artist and Associate Professor of Art at UTSA, Ovidio Giberga, spent much of his early life living abroad, Spain, Colombia, Italy, and Venezuela, as well as, various regions throughout the U.S. These experiences have provided him with a broad cultural perspective that has been a source of inspiration for his work. His ceramic sculptures are rich with historical references, cultural symbolism, and personal content. A common theme that runs throughout much of his work is duality and/or struggle expressed formally through the relationships between inside and out, surface and orm, the natural and man-made.
Mr. Giberga's Legacy Box Series and Vulnerability Series will be on exhibition from October 1, 2018-January 14, 2019 in the South Texas Research Facility Lobby.
