Pain Assessment in Patients with Oral Cancer

This ongoing study will evaluate pain levels in oral cancer patients in order to develop new drugs that are aimed at treating oral cancer and cancer-induced pain.

Qualifications

  • Are you a patient treated at UT Health Science Center San Antonio CTRC or MARC?
  • Has your biopsy been confirmed as oral cancer?

Participating in this Study

  • Participants will answer a short questionnaire.
  • Patients will provide a small sample of saliva.
  • Financial compensation may be provided.

About the Researcher

Dr. Cara Gonzales is a dual-degreed dentist, D.D.S., Ph.D., with expertise in oral cancer. She is conducting a study sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The study is evaluating pain levels in oral cancer patients and developing new drugs aimed at treating oral cancer and cancer-induced pain.

The American Cancer Society, the largest non-government, not-for-profit funding source of cancer research in the United States, has awarded a $729,000 research grant to the UT Health Science Center San Antonioto support research in treating oral cancer and cancer-induced pain.
