Dry eyes can feel like there is sand or grit in your eyes and happens when there is not enough moisture in the eye. It can be caused by many things, including diseases, age, smoking or even allergy medications. Chronic dry eye can be painful and lead to permanent damage.

UT Health Ophthalmology offers Lipiflow, a Thermal Pulsation System treatment that applies directed heat and gentle pressure to the affected Meibomian glands, allowing the glands to return to normal function. The treatment is clinically proven, minimally invasive and may provide sustained relief from Evaporative Dry Eye disease.

Eye drops only offer temporary relief, ask your ophthalmologist for more information about other options for treating dry eyes.

Ophthalmology is located at the Medical Arts & Research Center, on the sixth floor.
