Personnel Profiles

Employee of the Quarter

Facilities Management has a very active Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year program aimed to recognize those special individuals that go above and beyond what is expected of them. They represent the very best of the HSC.

For the October - December 2009 quarter, our selectees are:

Eddie Martinez

Candy McCarthy
Personnel Coordinator

Each day, Candy's work goes virtually unnoticed. She comes in early and leaves on time but still does not have enough hours in the day to do everything that she would like to do. She consistently goes above and beyond with her assigned work. She has demonstrated that she is able to pick up a task or a project in a moment’s notice and ensure that they are finished on deadline and are complete.

Her detailed work during this year’s annual budget planning and preparation period made the transition into the new fiscal year easier. Candy played an instrumental part in the merit review process. The number of employees on WCI and when their paid leave is exhausted is tracked meticulously so as not to miss any deadlines and to keep the employee informed of all updates. She keeps atop the hiring and termination activity even though our total departmental employees are hovering close to 350 strong and growing quickly.

All of these vital tasks, as well as other responsibilities, and her dedication to the department make her an indispensable part of Facilities Management. Candy greatly deserves to be recognized as Employee of the Quarter.

James Franco

James is responsible for Backflow Prevention testing and repairs on all campuses. Backflow Prevention is vital to making sure we have no faulty devices that could contaminate the UTHSCSA Facilities and city water supply. He does an excellent job performing this duty.

His job requires him to do maintenance and repair on other plumbing issues on the campuses and he always responds to problems in a timely and efficient manner, seeing that the task is finished to the customer’s satisfaction.

James is always willing and able to work overtime as the job requires and responds to after hour’s calls, staying until the problem is resolved.

His is a vital asset to the Maintenance Shop and Facilities Management.
